How to choose a home care provider

Not all home care is the same. A few good questions will quickly tell you whether a provider is right for your family.

What should I ask a home care provider?

Ask about who leads the care, who comes to the home, and how costs work. The answers reveal a lot.

  • Is the care overseen by a registered nurse?
  • Will we see the same carers, or a different person each time?
  • How clear and transparent are the costs?
  • How quickly can care start, and can it change as needs change?
  • Are you local, and do you know our area?

Why does nurse oversight matter?

Because older people usually have health needs, not just practical ones. A provider with a registered nurse in charge can handle the clinical side and spot problems early.

What are the warning signs?

Vague pricing, no clinical oversight, constant changes of carer, and pressure to sign up quickly. Good providers are clear, calm and happy to answer questions.
